Frequently Asked Questions

Explore our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to discover comprehensive answers to common inquiries about foot health, conditions we treat, and our podiatry services in Hervey Bay and Maryborough.

What are some common foot conditions that the expert podiatry team at Family Feet Podiatry in Hervey Bay and Maryborough can help with?

The expert podiatry team at Family Feet Podiatry can assist with various foot conditions including heel pain (plantar fasciitis & heel spurs), flat feet, Sever’s Disease (childhood heel pain), neuroma (pain in the ball of the foot), Achilles tendonitis, bunions, arthritic feet, ankle sprains and instability, injuries, routine foot care, corns & calluses, ingrown toenails, plantar warts, fungal nails, athlete’s foot, hammer toes, and diabetic foot care.

What causes plantar fasciitis and how is it treated?

Plantar fasciitis typically results from inflammation of the band of fibrous connective tissue running along the arch of the foot. It occurs due to strain beyond the normal extension of the plantar fascia, leading to inflammation, pain, and possibly the growth of a bone spur where it attaches to the heel bone. Treatment may involve the use of anti-inflammatory medications, ice packs, stretching exercises, and prescription orthotic devices.

How does Sever’s Disease manifest in children, and what are its causes and treatment options?

Sever’s Disease presents with heel pain, usually aggravated by physical activity such as walking, running, or jumping. It primarily affects children aged 8-14 years, causing pain over the calcaneal apophysis (growth plate) at the back and sides of the heel. The condition is primarily caused by excessive traction on the heel bone during its development. Treatment involves the use of prescription orthotics, proper footwear, stretching, ice, and in severe cases, anti-inflammatory medication.
